Adam Kapovits (Eurescom GmbH), project coordinator of the OPTI-6G contributed with a presentation on behalf of the project to the “Optical access and in-building networks as 6G Infrastructure: Centralized Coordination and Physical AI” session of the Berlin 6G conference.
In the context of the second day, on Wednesday 9th September 2026, in the International Technical Sessions, OPTI-6G participated in the technical session “Optical access and in-building networks as 6G Infrastructure: Centralized Coordination and Physical AI”.
The goal of the session was to discuss the combination of fibre-to-the-room (FTTR) with Wi-Fi is an enabler for high-performance wireless indoor access in households and industries. It was discussed recent developments of next-generation optical in-building networks as they create new possibilities to coordinate the wireless access, next to the usage of locally licensed spectrum. The goal is to reach “wire-like wireless” behaviour, which is needed for robotics and other Physical AI applications. The panel with all experts highlighted future challenges for research and development.
Speakers:
- „From Fiber-to-the-Room to AI-Native Connectivity: The Convergence of Optical In-Building Infrastructure and Wi-Fi 9“, Sandip Das, Nokia
- „Locally Licensed Spectrum for Physical AI, Opportunities and Challenges“, Lennert Bober, HHI
- „From Campus Connectivity to Physical AI Control: Lessons Learned and Next Steps in Adtran’s Terafactory“, Florian Spinty, Adtran
- „Optical access enabling buildings to communicate and sense simultaneously“, Adam Kapovits, EURESCOM
- „From 6G Promise to Industrial Adoption: What Physical AI Actually Needs“, Carl Bryan Wills, Deutsche Telekom
