The OPTI-6G project is proud to announce that Professor John Cosmas of Brunel University London, Technical Manager of OPTI-6G, will be chairing the Optics and Photonics Innovations Workshop (Workshop 13) at the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, June 3rd from 14:00 to 17:30 in Room 1.B.

This workshop is of strategic importance to the Horizon Europe Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), as it brings together contributions from 10 leading SNS JU projects, showcasing the critical role of optics and photonics in shaping Europe’s next-generation digital infrastructure.

As the Technical Manager of OPTI-6G, Professor Cosmas is instrumental in advancing the project’s vision of optical-cell free, beamsteered networks with advanced localization capabilities. His leadership in organizing this session underscores OPTI-6G’s central role in the ongoing research dialogue and coordination efforts within the EU’s 6G innovation ecosystem.

Workshop Focus and Structure

The workshop will address timely topics such as:

  • Autonomous photonic network management

  • Reconfigurable optical transport

  • Optical IoT and printed electronics

  • Photonics-based localization and synchronization

  • Confluent edge networks and scalable photonics

The workshop will be delivered in two sessions:

  • Session 1 (14:00 – 15:30): Featuring projects including SEASON, FLEX-SCALE, SUPERIOT, 6G-MUSICAL, and 6G-XCEL.

  • Session 2 (16:00 – 17:30): Showcasing ECO-ENET, 6G-EWOC, PROTEUS-6G, and OPTI-6G, among others. Professor Cosmas will present OPTI-6G’s vision for “Optical 6G Cell-Free Beamsteered Networks with Localization.”

This workshop will serve as a critical platform to foster collaboration, exchange research insights, and shape future partnerships in photonics for 6G—aligning with Europe’s broader goal of achieving sustainable, high-performance network infrastructure by 2030.
